Kim Vesey says she has lived a very blessed life. She is a retired certified hospice RN, has served as the Executive Director at Hospice of Dayton, and is certified in Thanatology (the study of death and grief). She says her faith is very strong, and that has sustained her through difficult personal losses. Her 49-year-old husband (Les) died of colon cancer just 4 months after being diagnosed in 2006. Her dad died unexpectedly in 2015. Then her 29-year-old daughter, Sarah (and the unborn child she was carrying), died in 2017 from complications of an asthma attack. Sarah left behind her 3-year-old son, Warren. In 2022, Kim’s mom died, and then Kim’s beloved Yorkie, Sally, who had been with her through 3 of these losses, also died. Kim is grateful for her son Patrick and her grandson Warren, who is now 12 and doing quite well. As a result of Kim’s life’s work and her personal losses, she retired early and has written 7 books for grieving children and speaks nationally on the topic of grief. Her goal is to change the way the world understands and responds to grief and those who are grieving.
